Maharashtra records 3,145 new COVID-19 cases; 45 deaths on January 15

On Friday, January 15, Maharashtra recorded 3,145 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 19,84,768. Currently, there are 52,152 active cases in the state. With 3,500 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 18,81,088.

More than 45 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 50,336. While 2,24,851 persons are under home quarantine, 2,240 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.78 per cent, and 2.54 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 574 new COVID-19 cases, 793 recoveries and eight deaths on Friday, January 15, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,01,652. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 7,104 active cases and 2,82,435 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,227 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 25,65,443 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 130 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,274 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 15,158 new cases, 16,977 recoveries and 175 deaths taking the tally up to 1,05,42,841 on Friday, January 15. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,01,79,715 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,52,093 in the country. At present, there are 2,11,033 active cases. According to the ICMR, 18,57,65,491 samples have been tested up to January 15.
