Maharashtra records less than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases for second consecutive day

On Tuesday, February 2, Maharashtra recorded 1,927 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 20,30,274. Currently, there are 41,586 active cases in the state. With 4,011 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 19,36,305.

More than 30 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 51,139. While 1,89,288 persons are under home quarantine, 2,121 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 95.37 per cent, and 2.52 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 334 new COVID-19 cases, 455 recoveries and seven deaths on Tuesday, February 2, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,09,631. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 5,528 active cases and 2,91,828 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,366 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 28,29,156 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 182 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,085 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 11,039 new cases, 14,225 recoveries and 110 deaths taking the tally up to 1,07,77,284 on Tuesday, February 2. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,04,62,631 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,54,596 in the country. At present, there are 1,60,057 active cases. According to the ICMR, 19,84,73,178 samples have been tested up to February 2. So far, 41,38,918 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country.
