Coronavirus cases in the state of Maharashtra are increasing with every passing day, and officials state that the reason for this rise is due to the increase in the number of tests conducted. India is currently in the fourth unlock (unlock 4.0) phase, after a five-month long lockdown due to coronavirus outbreak.
Earlier in March and April, the number of cases in Mumbai were high, however, due to the limited availability of kits and resources, the tests were not being conducted extensively. However, the scenario has changed and the government is making sure that COVID-19 tests are becoming more frequent, and as per reports, Maharashtra is one of the states in India to have the most number of tests conducted.
As per reports, more than 4.3 crore coronavirus tests have been conducted, out of which more 1.2 crore tests have been done in the last two weeks. Besides Maharashtra, the governments in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh are also pushing for similar screenings to ensure timely diagnosis and identification of cases. More than one million tests have been conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, as per the data shared by ICMR.
Total coronavirus cases in the country have reached 37 lakhs, out of which more than 28 lakh cases have been treated and discharged. With the current figures, the recovery rate in India is at 77 per cent.
Data released by the state health department, as of September 1, 2020, shows that Maharashtra has a total of 8,08,306 cases out of which 1,46,947 cases are from Mumbai. Moreover, the state currently has 24,903 deaths due to coronavirus.
