According to reports, while the third wave of coronavirus commenced in Mumbai and Pune, it has now spread to all 35 districts in Maharashtra. Active cases in the state surged from 32,225 on January 1 to 2,65,346 on January 16, signifying an increase of 736 per cent. 

Based on accounts, nearly seven districts from Vidharbha and many from Marathwada and north Maharashtra entailing Nandurbar, Bhandara, Wardha, Washim, Yavatmal, Gadchiroli and Hingoli previously had active cases in single digits but in the past two weeks, have registered a 100 to 300-fold increase.

Bhandara's active cases increased from 2 to 570, while Wardha's surged from 7 to 1,003, Yavatmal from 9 to 572 while Washim's rose from 3 to 296. Nagpur too has witnessed a rise in active cases from 251 on January 1 to almost 10,000 now. 

Nanded has seen active cases increase from 17 to 2,768 in a fortnight, while Latur has registered a rise from 41 to 2,142 cases. Nandurbar has witnessed cases increase from 6 to 621, a 100-fold increase. Dhule which previously reported 10 cases now reported 810. Jalgaon too has seen a rise from 17 to 1,846.

Nandurbar also has two confirmed cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, both of whom had a travel link to Mumbai and Pune. However, there isn't pressure on the health infrastructure as of yet, claim reports.
