Mumbai records 586 new COVID-19 cases, total cases near 2,85,000-mark

On Thursday, December 17, Mumbai recorded 586 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the city’s COVID-19 tally to 2,84,990. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, currently, there are 7,031 active cases in the financial capital.

With 499 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recoveries soared to 2,66,101. Due to the outbreak, 10 people have lost their lives in the last 24 hours and in total the death toll for Mumbai stands at 11,017. While the recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 21,48,723 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 372 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 4.404 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Maharashtra reported 3,880 new COVID-19 cases, 4,358 recoveries and 65 deaths on Thursday (December 17), taking the total number of cases in the state to 18,84,773 There are 60,905 active cases in the state and 17,74,255 patients have recovered so far. The death toll is at 48,499 in Maharashtra.

The states recovery rate is 94.14 per cent, while the mortality rate is 2.57 per cent. Currently, 4,033 people are institutional quarantine and 5,06,914 are home quarantine.

Meanwhile, India reported 22,889 new COVID-19 cases, 31,087 recoveries and 338 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the tally up to 99,79,447 according to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday (December 17). While in total 95,20,827 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,44,789 in the country. At present, there are 3,13,831 active cases. According to the ICMR, 15,89,18,646 samples have been tested up to December 17.
