On Monday, Mumbai recorded three deaths due to COVID-19. This is the second consecutive day in a row when the city reported just 3 deaths from coronavirus. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), this is the lowest single-day fatalities since March 2020 for the city.

Mumbai reported 516 new COVID-19 cases, 570 recoveries and three deaths on Monday, January 4, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 2,94,985. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 6,943 active cases and 27,60,34 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,138 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 24,04,001 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 215 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,158 buildings are sealed by the BMC.
On Monday, January 4, Maharashtra recorded 2,765 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 19,47,011. Currently, there are 48,801 active cases in the state. With 10,362 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 18,47,361.
29 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 49,695. While 2,41,728 persons are under home quarantine, 3,078 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.88 per cent, and 2.55 per cent respectively. With 46,374 new tests, the total number of samples tested for coronavirus in Maharashtra has gone up to 1,30,04,876.
Meanwhile, India reported 16,375 new cases, 29,091 recoveries and 201 deaths taking the tally up to 1,03,56,845 on Monday, January 4. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 99,75,958 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,49,850 in the country. At present, there are 2,31,036 active cases. According to the ICMR, 17,65,31,997 samples have been tested up to January 4.
