In the month of June, more than 450 gastro cases were reported across Mumbai.

According to reports, 20-25 patients are being detected daily who have a history of fever, headache, rashes, muscle, joint pain, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

Meanwhile, between June 1-26, 456 such cases were reported in Mumbai. Therefore, public health department officials have urged citizens to not self-medicate and consult nearby BMC health post/dispensary/hospital immediately if there are any symptoms.

Doctors explained that since the lockdown relaxation many street food stalls have opened up due to which people have now stopped eating home-made-food following which cases have increased. Hence, citizens need to be more cautious while eating outside as the pandemic has not ended completely. Until there is a steep drop in COVID-19 cases Mumbaikars should avoid eating outside as it will not only cause gastro but increase chances of contracting coronavirus.

Around 70 per cent of COVID patients have some form of gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite and some have liver dysfunction during the acute illness.

Besides, experts have stated that there has been a spike in monsoon diseases; especially malaria, in Mumbai. Although malaria cases are a cyclic phenomenon, it shares some of the highly recognisable symptoms with COVID-19 such as fever, headache, breathlessness etc.
