Looking at the increasing number of Covid 19 patients, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner (NMMC) Rajesh Narvekar had directed the triad of screening, isolation and treatment in the review meeting to prevent the spread of the Covid virus. Accordingly, special attention has been given to increase the COVID-19 testing and at present more than 2,000 COVID-19 tests are being conducted every day.
The sick persons with symptoms coming to the municipal hospital or civic health centre for treatment of cold, cough and fever are being tested for Covid-19 and ILR and all patients are also being tested for Covid-19.
23 primary civic health centres and 4 hospitals of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation are conducting COVID-19 tests and the RT-PCR laboratory at Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital in Nerul is functioning at full capacity 24 hours a day. At this hospital, RT-PCR test report is made available to the concerned person within 24 hours by sending a link through SMS message and 5 days isolation is advised to the Covid 19 positive patients.
In view of the rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in the surrounding city, the entire health system of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation should take note of the need to maintain vigilance and emphasise on testing and take preventive measures while giving instructions to all the medical officers to follow the Covid-19 preventive rules especially when going to crowded places and hospitals, said Narvekar.
