The civic bodies in Mumbai had to halt COVID-19 vaccination for the 45-plus age group and health and frontline workers as there has been no supply of the vaccine for some time now.

Moreover, at the state level, too, the stocks are depleted, said a senior official of the public health department. However, at such a time, the Maharashtra government has begun the next phase of inoculation from May 1, where all between 18-44 years of age can get vaccinated.

Meanwhile, an official said that the state has not received any fresh stock from the Centre since April 26. The vaccination drive in the state had gathered momentum in the second fortnight of April, with an average of three lakh people being vaccinated in a day. The figure had almost reached four lakhs on one day.

State immunisation officer Dr D Patil said the state would be unable to conduct a full-fledged drive on Monday due to a lack of stocks. The health department was expecting stocks and should be able to restart the drive in a couple of days, he added.

According to reports, on May 1, the Union health ministry had announced the allocation of over 23 lakh doses of vaccines for Maharashtra for the first 15 days of May, state officials said they are yet to receive any intimation on when the stocks would arrive and in what quantities.
