There are reports of swine flu infection spreading in other parts of the state including Mumbai. According to the data provided by the health department of the state, till June 15 this year, 432 cases of swine flu were found in the state, out of which 15 patients lost their lives due to this infection.


Since the onset of monsoon, cases of epidemic diseases like dengue, malaria and lepto have also increased in Mumbai. But, the number of cases of swine flu is now increasing. At present there are swine flu patients in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) run hospitals in Mumbai as well. At present, the hot and humid environment in Mumbai city and its suburbs is conducive to the infection of this virus.

Citizens are advised to seek medical advice if common symptoms such as cold cough, fever, body ache, sore throat and so on appear. Meanwhile, the health system is appealing to the citizens not to panic as the number of swine flu patients who are currently getting better at least in a short time is high.


Swine flu infection is also known as H1N1. These viruses are spread when a person sneezes, coughs or spits. The infection can also spread if the same hands touch the nose or eyes after touching an unclean surface. 


What are the symptoms of swine flu? 

  • Shortness of breath, fatigue, cold, cough, sneezing, sore throat, muscle pain, fever.
  • Children, pregnant women, elderly people, patients with heart and lung disorders, diabetic patients and other diseases have been urged to take extra care in this infection.
