BMC: Over 35,000 COVID-19 Vaccines Administered in Two Days

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that a total of 35,429 individuals received their COVID-19 vaccine on July 21 and 22 across Mumbai. 

As of 7 PM on Thursday, 19,833 beneficiaries from the 18-44 age group received their vaccine while 11,477 of the beneficiaries were in the 45-59 age bracket. Lastly, 4,045 senior citizens and 11 healthcare workers and frontline workers received their jabs.

Those among the vaccinated also include 16 pregnant women, 41 lactating mothers, and six specially-abled individuals. It’s worth mentioning that all these vaccinations came from private institutions since state and civic-run hospitals had suspended their drive due to inadequate stock.

Additional Municipal Commissioner of the BMC, Suresh Kakani clarified that the civic body received 61,200 total doses of vaccines, including 50,000 vials of Covishield and 11,200 Covaxin doses. 

Kakani added that a new batch of vaccines will arrive by July 24. “If we don't get enough doses by Saturday, then there's a chance that vaccination in some of the BMC and state government run centres would be cancelled again on Saturday,” he said while speaking to the Free Press Journal
