Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) will begin the national campaign “Healthy Women, Strong Families” on September 17. The campaign will include health camps at all 26 health facilities managed by PMC. The goal is to improve women’s health and support families.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is running the programme. Officials from PMC recently held a review meeting to plan the campaign. The campaign will offer a wide range of health services for women. These include screening for diabetes, hypertension, oral cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and tuberculosis in at-risk women.
Teenage anaemia will be diagnosed and treated, and testing for sickle cell disease will be provided in tribal communities. Maternal and child health services will also be available. Pregnant women can access prenatal care, haemoglobin testing, dietary guidance, and childhood vaccinations.
PMC will also provide AYUSH treatments, including Ayurvedic, homoeopathic, Unani, Siddha, and naturopathic therapies. There will be workshops that will focus on healthy living, nutrition, menstrual hygiene, and reducing sugar and oil intake. These sessions will be conducted through panchayat networks and self-help groups.
Digital health access will be expanded during the campaign. Residents can register for PM-JAY and receive Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) health cards. The Nikshay Mitra programme will also be promoted. This initiative encourages individuals and organisations to support tuberculosis patients and provide for their nutritional needs.
Furthermore, a large-scale blood donation drive is scheduled for October 1, National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. Patients identified at health camps who require specialised care will be referred for free additional testing, imaging, or surgery.
As per a report by FPJ, Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale led the preparations. Deputy Commissioner Prasenjit Karlekar, Chief Medical Officer Dr Anand Gosavi, and Medical Officer Dr Rehana Mujawar attended the meeting.
