According to sources, one of the drugs used to treat the coronavirus, Remdesivir, is to be made available in the city at a lower rate of ₹2,360.

The state health department of Maharashtra has decided to make the Remdesivir injection available to patients in private hospitals at lower rates. In view of this, at least one drug store will be set up in each district. Accordingly, 59 shops have been fixed. These injections are currently in high demand due to the surge in the COVID-19 cases. Moreover, a shortage of the same had been reported earlier. However, due to the high cost of these injections, not everyone could afford them.

In view of this situation in the state, the health department has decided to make injections available at lower rates. The Food and Drug Administration is touted to overlook the entire process. Under this scheme, 5,000 injections will be made available by the manufacturing companies daily. Injections will be made available by the District Surgeon upon demand from the Health Department as per the need of the district. Private hospitals will have to request injections from the District Surgeon's Office with patient information. Only then will the medicine be available in the respective shops.

Remdesivir helps stabilize moderate cases of the coronavirus as it works by copying the coronavirus's genetic make-up, the RNA and slows down replication. It happens to be the first drug approved by licensing authorities in the US to treat the patients suffering from COVID-19.
