Private hospitals in Navi Mumbai return ₹32 lakhs to COVID19 patients

Over the last few weeks, NMMC has received many complaints where private hospitals have asked patients to pay more for the treatment. NMMC intervened in the matter and asked the hospitals to return the additional amount charged for coronavirus treatment

A few days back, many patients in Navi Mumbai complained about private hospitals charging an extra amount for the treatment for coronavirus. This, as per reports, was not being followed by the guidelines issued by the government.

Observing the complaints, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) decided to take necessary action. Meanwhile, officials also asked the hospitals to return the additional amount charged for the treatment, and as per reports, a sum of ₹32 lakhs has been reimbursed so far.

It is said that Vashi-based PKC Hospital, Sanpada-based PCT Hospital, Belapur's GM Hospital, Vashi-based Fortis Hospital, Nerul's Dr DY Patil Hospital, Reliance Hospital in Koparkhairane, Apollo Hospital in Belapur, Global Hospital in Vashi, Rajpal Hospital in Koparkhairane, Terna Hospital in Nerul and Sunshine Hospital in Nerul, had charged the extra amount and not followed the protocols. Patients admitted at these hospitals received the payment after the municipal corporation intervened.

Over the last few weeks, NMMC  has received many more complaints where patients are paying more for the treatment, and to handle these queries, the team at the municipality has now set up a call centre to enable the citizens to lodge their grievances easily. With this, officials will be able to take appropriate action within the stipulated time. 

One can call the the 'COVID Bill Grievance Redressal Center' on 022-27567389 or 7208490010 to raise concerns, and the office has been set up on the ground floor of NMMC building. The same has been functional from September 7, as is operational every day from 8 AM to 8 PM.

As of Monday, September 14, 2020, Navi Mumbai had a total of 34,082 cases and 758 deaths, after 374 cases and one death was reported in a day. Mumbai division has a total of 4,04,218 cases with 14,130 deaths. More than 17,000 new cases were reported in Maharashtra on Monday.
