Many women with breast cancer have to lose their breasts. However, they can be restored with breast reconstruction or breast implants. Due to the lack of information among women, Tata Hospital is focusing on creating awareness about breast implants. A separate surgery theater for breast transplantation has been started in the hospital.

Every year, 12,000 breast cancer patients are operated on in Tata Memorial Hospital. Few of those women get breast implants. Breast implants are important in helping women regain their confidence after a long battle. One of the 14 state-of-the-art surgery theaters at Tata Hospital's Kharghar hospital is dedicated to breast cancer and transplants.

Breast cancer patients are increasing in the country. Due to lack of awareness about breast transplant, the number of transplants is relatively low. Dr. Tata Memorial Hospital has performed only 70 breast transplant surgeries, Vinay Shankhadhar said. One of the new operating theaters started at Kharghar has been given to the Department of Aesthetic Surgery to promote breast implant surgery. This will help in increasing the number of breast transplants, says Dr. Rajan Badve, Tata Hospital Director.
