Thane, Navi Mumbai Reports Zero COVID-19 Cases, Deaths

In a relieving news, Thane and Navi Mumbai reported zero COVID-19 cases on Monday, March 21, for the first time ever in these two years of pandemic.

This happened despite the number of tests conducted being on par with the last two weeks’ testing figures.

Moreover, according to a data revealed by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), both the cities had reported zero deaths too on the same day.

Accounts also stated that Thane has vaccinated 98 per cent of its target population with both the doses. This has helped lower the cases and the deaths in the city, said officials. However, the health officials have advised citizens to not let their guard down and continue wearing masks.

At present, Thane has 25 active cases while merely five people are admitted in various COVID-dedicated hospitals in the city.

Data also stated that the TMC has been conducting 500-700 tests on an average in a month. On Monday, March 21, 514 samples were tested in Thane City. NMMC, on the other hand, conducted 6,235 tests on the same day out of which none of the samples tested positive.

Thane city reported its first case on March 12, 2020, when a then 36-year-old resident of Ghodbunder had returned from France and tested positive. Till March 21 this year, the city recorded more than 1.83 lakh coronavirus positive cases and 2,127 deaths.

Meanwhile, Navi Mumbai had its first case on March 13, 2020 after a Filipino resident had tested positive in Vashi.

Besides, Mumbai reported 28 new cases and zero deaths on Monday, March 21.
