With 32 positive cases, Maharashtra worst hit in India

A 59-year-old woman tests Covid-19 positive in Aurangabad. With this new addition, the total tally for the state goes up to 32.

As per the Indian Health Ministry, the total number of cases in the country has reached 107. These figures were last updated at 12.00 PM and indicate number of positive cases in Maharashtra as 31. 

Out of the new cases that have tested positive in Maharashtra on Saturday, five were from Pimpri-Chinchwad. There were another two in Yavatmal and one each  from Mumbai, Vashi (Navi Mumbai), Kamothe, Kalyan and Nagpur. 

On Saturday,  a 71-year-old man with a recent travel history to Saudi Arabia was suspected to have coronavirus infection died in Buldhana. Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope said his was a suspected case and they have collected his sample and the tests are pending.

Furthermore, son and wife of the 65-year old who had tested positive in Hinduja hospital and later had to be shifted to Kasturba have also tested positive. The 65-year old had recently been to Dubai and had kept his travel history a secret while getting admitted in Hinduja.

There is lockdown in place in Maharashtra. All cinema halls, malls, schools, gyms etc have been asked to remain shut till March 31. Grocery shops can remain open. The state is also advising people to avoid social gatherings and crowded places. 

Health minister, Rajesh Tope is expected to visit Kasturba Hospital at 2.00 PM to assess the situation and check on the patients being treated there.

The biggest concern at the moment for India remains to be the people who keep running away or become missing after testing positive or who are suspected to be positive for COVID-19. 

Meanwhile, the death toll globally has crossed 5,700 mark as per AFP. In India there have been two deaths reported from this novel coronavirus. On the bright side, the first woman to have tested positive in Delhi has fully recovered and has been discharged.
