Mumbai: 5 people including 3-year-old boy injured in Byculla elevator crash

In another massive structural damage, an elevator collapsed in a building in South Mumbai’s Byculla area on late Saturday night, October 30. However, in this incident, five persons, including 3-year-old boy, sustained injuries, a police official said on Sunday, October 31.

The incident took place in a ground plus 18-storey Gulmohar terrace building, which is a Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), located on JJ Marg near J J hospital.

The police said the incident took place at around 11.05 pm when five persons including two minors were using the lift. Soon after the incident, the residents of the building informed the fire brigade and Mumbai police control room, who reached the spot of accident promptly and rescued them. Later, they were immediately admitted in JJ Hospital. However, their condition is stable now, said an official.

The injured persons, identified as Huma Khan, (24), Arsha Khan (7), Sohan Kadri, (3), Neelofer Rizwan Shaikh (36) and Shahin Khan (45).

According to reports, there was a malfunction in the lift and it came crashing from the tenth floor. JJ Marg police said they have registered a case under Section 287 (Negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.

Moreover, the police stated that a case was registered on Sunday, October 31, and a probe is being conducted to find out whose negligence led to the collapse.
