The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has installed a solar power facility on top of the Mahim Causeway's largest sewage pumping station, making it the largest of its kind in Asia. The 230 kw solar power plant generates more than 30,000 units of electricity each month, saving the BMC INR 2.40 lakh.

The project cost is INR 1.5 crore and has a lifespan of 25 years, which means it will pay for itself within the next six years. This project is a significant step towards reducing carbon dioxide emissions, as it will help cut more than 7,000 tonnes of emissions over the next 25 years. According to BMC's press statement, the environmental impact of the project is the same as planting 11,000 trees.

This is a great initiative towards promoting green energy and reducing carbon footprint. The Mahim Causeway-based solid waste pumping station was constructed in 2003 and is the largest in Asia. The facility's eight pumps are used to pump sewage from the city's western and eastern suburbs.
