Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has won the title of ‘Cargo Airport of the Year-Region India’ at the Air Cargo India 2022 Exhibition & Conference, for excellence in Air Cargo for the fifth time in a row. The award comes as a recognition for the superior cargo capabilities demonstrated by CSMIA with its consistent efforts towards the adoption of innovations in air cargo processing, creating an efficient digital ecosystem and building a robust infrastructure to support the seamless movement of goods.

The prestigious title was presented at the Air Cargo India 2022 event, for Excellence in Air Cargo, in Mumbai on the 1 June 2022 which saw in attendance leading industry experts and regulators. Manoj Singh, Senior Vice President & Head, MIAL Cargo, received the award on behalf of CSMIA and extended his gratitude for recognizing CSMIA’s relentless efforts for contributing toward the global air cargo operations.

Connecting to over 500 cargo destinations in pre-pandemic, CSMIA's cargo facility is a major gateway for Pharmaceuticals, Perishables, Automobiles and Engineering goods to India. CSMIA’s advanced cargo infrastructure ensures it stays ahead of the global players in air freight supply chain operations and continues to rapidly improve on the existing structures. From receiving India’s 1st and Asia’s 3rd “IATA CEIV Pharma” accreditation to housing the World’s largest airport-based facilities, “Export Cold Zone – Pharma & Agro Excellence Centre”, “Import Pharma Cold Zone”, “Export Heavy & Bonded Cargo Terminal” and “Pharma Cooltainer”,

CSMIA has built an infrastructure with the potential to meet the ever-increasing demands for cargo movements. Moreover, from a digital innovations front, CSMIA’s digital ecosystem is designed to facilitate paperless transactions, faster clearances, and a reduction in processing time. The e-Freight initiatives like e-CSD, Slot Management, Online Delivery orders (Master and Consol), Import Digital Docket Delivery and Payment Gateway revolutionised the cargo operations. Whereas, Mumbai Airport’s Air Cargo Management System, called ‘AMAX’, focuses on digitally connecting all the air cargo stakeholders and allied agencies, thus driving digitalization to make air cargo processing much easier, agile and cost-effective.

CSMIA, the 2nd largest airport in the country for handling cargo volumes and the country’s largest gateway for pharma & perishables, observed a rise of close to 30 per cent in movement in FY22. With the international cargo volumes growing by 26 per cent and domestic cargo volumes by 40 per cent over FY21, CSMIA’s cargo capabilities display signs of further growth and expansion. Being adjudged India’s ‘Cargo Airport of the Year’ at this juncture further encourages CSMIA to continue to be a partner to businesses by providing unparalleled service offerings which help CSMIA contribute to the global share of EXIM movements.
