Maharastra CM Uddhav Thackeray, on Monday, January 25, 2021, inaugurated the new Patripool rail overbridge in Kalyan. He attended the event via video conferencing, however, other members from the party were present at the location.

Work on the bridge was being carried out for the last two years after the Central Railway officials decided to dismantle the 104-year old structure due to safety reasons. The bridge was opened for the public on Monday, from the afternoon, and is said to offer relief to commuters travelling to and from Kalyan, Dombivli, Thane, Bhiwandi, Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. The bridge was also lit in tricolour, marking the occasion of Republic Day 2021.

The event was attended by other ministers like Aaditya Thackeray, Eknath Shinde, Officials from MSRDC, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and other MLAs.

Currently, members from the BJP and MVA are in a tussle to name the bridge, whereby officials are yet to decide on naming it either after APJ Abdul Kalam or Aai Tisai Devi. BJP leader Kapil Patil and Sena MP Shrikant Shinde have presented their thoughts on the same, to which the CM stated that the party wouldn't mind naming the same after Kalam, however, the sentiments of the locals should also be considered.

While addressing the gathering, CM also emphasised on the need to follow rules and wear face masks to protect ourselves against coronavirus. He also pointed out a few people from the gathering who were not following the rules.

As per reports released by MSRDC, this bridge is the longest in the MMR region, and the work to reconstruct the same began in December 2018. Officials, despite the COVID-19 obstacles, installed the girders and inaugurated the same in last quarter of 2020, Officials state that the railway department offered assistance to complete the project on a timely basis.
