In a significant development, the construction on the new 3rd line between Kalyan and Kasara has achieved an impressive 50 per cent overall physical progress along its 67.35 km length.
Releasing an official statement, the Central Railway's (CR) Mumbai Division said that completion of this vital project will reduce congestion of busy Kalyan - Kasara Suburban and mail express route and will improve mobility of the trains.

The railways have invested a total of INR 792.89 crores in this project. Out of this, the expenditure of INR 641.33 crores has already been used on various project components. The land acquisition phase is well underway, with 73.04% of the required 49.23 hectares acquired.
Apart from this, the CR is making noteworthy progress in doubling, 3rd, and 4th new lines across its five divisions. In the current fiscal year starting from April 2023, a total of 161.80 km of multitracking (new line/doubling/3rd/4th line) has been completed, with an allocation of INR 3,890 crore. The division has already expended INR 2,990 crore towards these crucial infrastructure developments.
