The General Manager of Central Railway, Ram Karan Yadav, inspected many passenger amenities at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). He was accompanied by Rajnish Goyal, Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Division, and other senior officers for this inspection on January 3.

During the inspection, Yadav also surveyed the construction progress of India's first railway odour-free air-conditioned toilet, situated at the CSMT Suburban concourse. Ram Karan Yadav expressed concern about improving passenger-centric amenities. Yadav focused on cleanliness and various passenger facilities at CSMT station during his inspection. The inspection included scrutiny of supermodern toilets. This scrutiny work was done so that all passengers’ needs were fulfilled.

The CSMT Suburban concourse's impending odour-free air-conditioned restroom is being hailed as the 'first of its kind in Indian Railways'. It uses a two-stage treatment method to provide fresh, cooled air intake in the bathroom area and an odour-free environment.

The project is in line with CR's mission to improve passengers' travel experiences in general. The facility's cutting-edge features and design prioritise comfort and hygiene, with the goal of setting a standard for train stations across the nation.

Apart from assessing the passenger facilities, General Manager Yadav also examined the ongoing renovations at CSMT Station. Notably, Yadav went from Thane to Dadar last month as an ordinary passenger in a second-class cabin, just after assuming the role of General Manager of the Central Railway.

In December 2023, Yadav also inspected the carriage workshop in Matunga. During the wheel shop inspection, he specifically focused on the safety and maintenance processes of EMU and mainline coach wheels.

He went to the heavy corrosion repair shop, where he inspected different corrosion areas of a coach. He also inspected the traction motor shop, trolley section, and spring section.

At the workshop, he interacted with all the workers and asked them about their work practices and how they were managing their duties.

He specifically checked that all the passenger safety laws were being followed at the workshop.

Last month, he also inspected the Wadi Bunder Coaching Depot in Mumbai. The visit was full of various pivotal discussions. During the inspection, a comprehensive overview of ongoing and innovative projects within the depot was carried out by Yadav.

Besides, important projects and milestones achieved by the team were discussed during the visit, highlighting the dedication to quality and innovation in the railway system.

A thorough analysis of the Vande Bharat Express (CSMT-Solapur rake) was conducted, with particular attention to debates concerning the design of the nose cone. Changes made to the Main Reservoir auto drain cock to prevent livestock run-over were brought to Yadav's attention during his visit.
