A fatal construction accident was reported in Mumbai’s Mulund West after a concrete slab from the under-construction Metro corridor collapsed onto moving vehicles along LBS Marg. The incident, which occurred on February 14, 2026, at around 12.20 pm near the Johnson & Johnson and Oberoi premises, resulted in the death of one person and injuries to three others. The collapse took place on the elevated stretch of the Mumbai Metro Line 4 project, which is being developed to connect Wadala and Thane. During construction work, a section of the cement slab was dislodged and fell onto an auto-rickshaw and a nearby car travelling on the arterial road.
The deceased was identified as Ramdhan Yadav, a local Samajwadi Party functionary and village head. It was reported that he had been travelling to attend a wedding at the time of the accident. Three other individuals sustained injuries and were shifted to medical facilities for treatment.
Immediate disciplinary and financial measures were announced by the Maharashtra government. The suspension of Executive Engineer Satyajeet Salve was ordered by Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde. A cumulative penalty of ₹6 crore was imposed on the contractors and consultants associated with the project, including Milan Road Buildtech and Louis Berger. Five employees linked to the contracting firms were arrested by police authorities. Among those detained were Project Director Harish Chauhan and two project managers. Investigations were initiated to determine accountability and establish the technical cause of the structural failure.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that a comprehensive inquiry would be conducted and that appropriate action would be taken against those found responsible. An enhanced compensation amount of ₹15 lakh was announced for the victim’s family. A complete safety and structural audit of the entire Metro Line 4 corridor was ordered to assess potential vulnerabilities in other sections of the project. Political reactions were strongly expressed in the aftermath. Aaditya Thackeray criticised infrastructure practices, alleging that safety norms were not being adequately enforced. Varsha Gaikwad questioned whether safety regulations were being implemented effectively during large-scale construction on busy roads.
