One arm of the Gopal Krishna Gokhale bridge in Andheri is scheduled to open for people by the first week of March, following multiple delays. Whereas the bridge's full opening has been postponed from May to December.

The traffic problems in Andheri have gotten worse after the closing of the vital east-west link. The bridge's opening date on one side was repeatedly pushed back. The bridge's partial opening was set for February 25, which was The deadline will be missed, though, because a few unfinished tasks will require an additional seven to 10 days to finish.

But now, BJP MLA Ameet Satam took to X and posted about the bridge's reopening. He wrote, “The work on one section of the #GokhaleBridge is nearly complete, with final finishing touches and curing underway at SV Roadside Access, along with the application of the mastic layer. This process is expected to take around 7 to 10 days. Once completed, the bridge will be opened for two-way movement on one side. An exact date for the opening will be communicated soon, likely either next week or in the first week of March, but no later than that.”

He went on to discuss the height limitation. He posted on X that a 2.8-meter height barrier would be put in place initially, limiting the movement of cars higher up. By May 31, this barrier will be taken down, enabling all cars, regardless of height, to pass through it. All traffic problems caused by the closure of the Gokhale bridge will be fixed because one side of the bridge is the width of three lanes.

Further speaking about connecting Gokhale Bridge with the CD Barfiwala flyover he wrote that the aligning task is assigned to three consultants. He posted, “The task of aligning the Gokhale Bridge with the CD Barfiwala flyover has been assigned to three consultants, including IIT and VJTI. This alignment will be carried out based on their reports and recommendations, with a deadline set for December 31st, 2024.”

While girders are being processed in the plant, work on the Gokhale Bridge's second side will start. Girder and pier launches are scheduled to commence, with a December 31, 2024, completion deadline.

The BMC had previously said that the bridge would be fully operational by May 2024 and half operational by December 2023. The deadline for reopening it in part was moved to the middle of February 2024.

According to civic officials, there will be two lanes on each arm of the restored bridge.
