According to a latest report, it has come to light that the Western Railway’s first pod hotel in Mumbai has received a lukewarm response from passengers.

It was inaugurated a month ago, on November 17, at Mumbai Central Railway station.

As per accounts, the pod hotel saw 146 bookings since being inaugurated, while the first two weeks of December saw 263 bookings by passengers.

Railway officials said that the response was less than what they anticipated; however, they attributed the same to the fact that less number of people are travelling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officials added that with the emerging of new coronavirus variant, Omicron, people continue to be afraid which is why there are less passengers travelling by outstation trains.

A senior Indian Rail Catering Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) official said that they are anticipating more people to book the pods through the end of December and in January.
