On Thursday, December 31, a damage to the underground pipeline of Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) was reported around 1 pm in Navi Mumbai. It has also caused major gas leakage while a road-digging work was being carried out near Vashi bus depot.

A major tragedy was averted following the quick response from the firefighters. The fire brigade station is located just 20 metres away.

As soon as the leak was reported, fire brigade team members and officials rushed to the spot. Efforts were made to stop the leakage immediately. The MGL technical team had also reached the spot to plug the leakage.

Fortunately, no person has been hurt as a result of this pipeline burst. As a precautionary measure, the cops have cordoned off the area. Traffic has been diverted for the time being.

Some readers of Mumbai Live also shared videos from the location to show how things are progressing. Here is a look at one such video.

Post this incident, MGL has also issued a statement, which reads, "MGL gas pipeline damaged near Vashi Fire Brigade, Sector 16A due to JCB impact during drainage work. As a precautionary measure, the gas supply has been temporarily stopped in the area. The rectification work is in progress and the gas supply is expected to be restored by evening. Inconvenience caused is regretted."
