The project, which was executed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), was done at the expense of INR 258 crore. The first phase of the project started in 2018, which involved the construction of four lanes on either side of the old bridge. The old bridge was then modified, and the additional four lanes were constructed. The MMRDA funded the expenses of widening the 784-metre long and 37.04-metre wide bridge, including the portions of the bridge over the railway crossing, which were constructed by Central Railway and funded by the MMRDA.

The congested traffic caused by the four-lane bridge will finally come to an end with the widening of the bridge. The project also involved the construction of a four-lane vehicular underpass, which is expected to significantly reduce travel time for vehicles crossing the stretch. Additionally, a new Kopri station has been proposed, providing a convenient mode of transportation for commuters.
The inauguration of the Kopri bridge widening project coincided with the Chief Minister's birthday, making it a memorable occasion for the citizens of Maharashtra. The widening of the bridge is expected to benefit vehicles of all sizes, reducing travel time and providing a smoother and faster route.
