Maharashtra may not utilize funds released under PMAY-G

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G), funds to the states are being released based on the demand of the state based on the requirement of beneficiaries who have been sanctioned houses, unspent balance available in the State Nodal Account, achievements of prescribed physical and financial progress as per the programme guidelines. 

The details of central share of funds released to Maharashtra, funds utilized and unspent balance for the financial year 2019-20 to 2021-22 were recently released by the department. Information regarding the same was shared in the statement on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

From the above, officials have emphasised that the state has not been able to utilize the funds released to the state during these years. There is no shortage of funds in the State of Maharashtra for implementation of PMAY-G.

More information regarding the same was given by the Union Minister of State for Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in a reply at the Rajya Sabha held on March 30, 2022. 

In February 2022, the department released a statement that said that during the last three years i.e. from 2018-19 to 2020-21, an amount of over INR 93,000 Crore was released to States /UTs for construction of houses in rural areas under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G). The district-wise number of houses constructed under PMAY-G in the State of Maharashtra during the last three years was also released in the attached annexure and the information was shared on the official website. 

In order to achieve “Housing for All” in rural areas, the Ministry of Rural Development began implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) with effect from April 1, 2016, with an aim to provide assistance to eligible rural households with overall target to construct 2.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities.
