The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has announced that it has completed 86 per cent of the backfilling work on the ramp located at Aarey’s Sariput Nagar for Metro Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ). The MMRC went on to say that this ramp is part of the last leg that will connect the underground portion to the elevated part.

Despite these developments, works to connect Line 3 with the elevated Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg) haven’t started yet.

Activists have previously raised objections to the ramp work being conducted at Aarey. Many questioned the reasoning behind continuing the ramp work at Aarey when the proposed car shed had been shifted out of the location. Officials later clarified that the ramp was being built to establish a connection with the elevated Metro line.

“The current government had taken a decision to integrate the underground Metro 3 with the elevated line at JVLR in September, last year. Now, nine months have passed since the announcement was made, but no work has begun in that direction. This is a cause of concern,” activist Zoru Bhathena said.

The Maharashtra Government announced in September 2019 that Line 3 would be connected with Line 6. Shortly after, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said in a Bombay High Court filing that the ramp will be utilized to establish connectivity with the elevated line 6 that passes through Jogeshwari Link Road.
