Mumbai airport, one of the country’s busiest airport has been infamous for frequent disruptions leading to late flights. In order to overcome the limitation, Mumbai Airport will now use a Real-Time software to manage the ground services and operations proficiently.

The software, Surface Awareness Guidance at Airport (SAGA) will now assist the airport by monitoring real-time ground movement and arriving air traffic. Mumbai Airport will be the first airport in the country to be using the technology. The software was installed last year but it became completely functional in January 2018.

SAGA is jointly developed by Altys Technologies and GVK. The software observes and studies the ground movement of the arriving and departing flights. This helps the officials to avoid any further delays related to the runway.

The software is programmed to display all the movements of an aircraft and vehicles of the airport. The software displays departing flights in green and the ones arriving in blue. Other vehicles on the runway are also tracked by the system.

The airport already is equipped with Surface Movement Radar (SMR) for the inspection of the aircraft but it only can be accessed by the air traffic controllers (ATCs).

The most salient feature of this system is that it offers to strengthen safety and efficiency of the flights in all weather conditions, thus reducing the ruckus created by bad weather.
