Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on March 7 that the first section of the Mumbai Coastal Road will open shortly following an inspection. He also discussed the project's advancement and advantages.

By March 12, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hopes to inaugurate the Coastal Road's first phase and open it to the public. The BMC anticipates that the project will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On February 19, the public was intended to have access to the southbound Coastal Road, which runs from Worli to Nariman Point. But for some reasons, the inauguration was postponed. The Maharashtra government and the civic body of Mumbai want the Prime Minister to inaugurate the project that has been ready since last month.

An official from BMC said that everyone wants the prime minister to inaugurate this project since it is revolutionary and features the world's first automobile tunnel beneath the surface of the ocean. Additionally, BMC recently carried out a load test on the coastal road. The inauguration is imperative because the Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha election is anticipated to take effect the following week.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to virtually launch this project, said BMC Chief Iqbal Singh Chahal.

A BMC representative stated that the north channel and link between the Bandra Worli Sea Link and the Coastal Road are nearing completion. Documents from the BMC state that the Worli to Nariman Point Coastal Road project (South) is 18.58 kilometres long and will cost INR 13,983 crore. Eight lanes make up this section, whereas the tunnel road has six lanes total, one of which is designated for buses. The 2.19-kilometre tunnel runs from Priyadarshini Park to Nariman Point. In its Budget 2024–2025, BMC had allocated INR 2,900 crore.

CM Shinde further said that about 120 acres of land have been recovered for the construction of a garden along the Coastal Road, while an additional 120 acres have been seized from Mahalaxmi Race Course. Here, Mumbai Central Park, spanning around 320 acres, will be built.

In order to evaluate the effects of big cars on the road, Chahal stated last month that they were carrying out a number of experiments, including weight tests, which they should finish in the coming days. He had projected that the opening of the Mumbai Coastal Road would occur between February 28 and March 3, but the opening was postponed.

The richest civic corporation in India, BMC, presented its INR 59,954.75 crore budget on February 2 and stated that the expected overall capital spending was INR 31,774.59 crore.

Significant funding has been provided for the Coastal Road Project, which is included in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's budget for 2024–2025. A total of INR 2,900 crore has been set aside for various project components. This includes cash allocations of INR 1,130 crore for the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) Versova to Dahisar, INR 220 crore for the Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road (the final segment of the Coastal Road), and INR 1870 crore for the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road.
