Mumbai’s much-awaited infra launch day planned for April 3 has been suddenly postponed. The events would have seen the opening of Metro Line 9 and Line 2B. The ceremonies are now expected to be held on April 5 or April 6. But this will be subject to final approval from state leadership.

In addition, it also delayed and affected more projects like the Thane–Borivli twin tunnel project, the BKC pod taxi system bhoomipujan, and the inauguration of the Golden Nest flyover. All these events were planned as part of a single high-profile infrastructure day for Mumbai.

According to reports, it was postponed because senior political leaders, who were expected to attend these events, are currently engaged in political programmes in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. Due to this, all scheduled inaugurations and ceremonies were called off at short notice.

In Bandra Kurla Complex, there were plans for the bhoomipujan of INR 1,016-crore pod taxi project. The system is designed as a driverless and elevated transport solution. It is planned to improve last-mile connectivity in one of Mumbai’s busiest business districts.

The Thane–Borivli twin tunnel project was also part of the scheduled events. The 11.8-km tunnel includes a ceremonial launch of tunnel-boring machines. Once completed, it is expected to reduce travel time between Thane and Borivli from over an hour during peak traffic to around 15 minutes. The Golden Nest flyover inauguration was also included in the schedule.

Metro Line 9, which runs between Kashigaon and Dahisar, has completed its first 4.5 km phase. The section has already undergone testing and received important safety certifications. It includes four stations: Dahisar East, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon. Metro Line 2B Phase I was also set for inauguration. This corridor is expected to ease pressure on Mumbai’s western suburbs, which face heavy daily congestion.
