The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited tenders for the construction of Orange Gate, Eastern Freeway -Marine Drive Subway project. But due to lack of response MMRDA has been forced to extend the tender. Now aspirants can submit a tender till May 8.

In 2013, the MMRDA constructed the 16.8 km Eastern Freeway to facilitate access to south Mumbai from Pune, Navi Mumbai and Thane. This route has made it possible to cover Chembur – CSMT distance in just 20 to 25 minutes. But after approaching Orange Gate, the vehicles going towards Nariman Point get stuck in a traffic jam. To relieve the vehicles from this traffic jam, MMRDA has decided to construct an underpass between the Eastern Freeway, Orange Gate – Marine Drive.

This project will be implemented with the aim of making it easy for vehicles coming from Pune, Navi Mumbai, Thane to reach South Mumbai directly. Japan’s PADECO Company has prepared a comprehensive plan for this three and a half km long project. After approval of the plan, MMRDA issued tenders for the construction of the subway in February 2023.

The deadline for submission of tenders was April 24. However, no tender has been submitted in this period. Therefore, a senior officer of MMRDA informed us that the tender process has been extended by 15 days. Now the interested companies can submit the tender till May 8.
