The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed the development plans for Mulund Bird Park.

The civic body has also drafted the layout of the park, which will have themed zones of different continents to play areas. With this, Mumbai is slated to receive a bird aviary coupled with green spaces and sports facilities.

It will be submitted by the appointed consultants and reviewed by the municipal commissioner. Later, it will be sent to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) for the final nod.

This is an extension of the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Vanaspati Udyan and Zoo (Ranibaug), sprawling 17,150 sq metres. Earlier, the civic body was planning to build a park across 6,000 square meters land.

Of the total area, the bird aviary will span over 10,000 square metres while the rest of the space will be developed as a garden, play zone amongst others.

According to the layout, Mulund Bird Park will have different zones such as the interpretation centre, kids zone, continent-wise zones (Australia, Africa, America) and public amenities, among others.

Furthermore, the bird park will connect into a playground comprising a basketball court, jogging track, volleyball court, tennis court as well as an open gym.

Once the new aviary takes shape, upto 22 species of birds -- black swan, toco toucan, peafowl white and others -- will be housed in the facility.
