According to reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is anticipated to add 1,262 additional four-wheeler parking spaces to Mumbai. They will do so by building multi-storey public parking lots at Matunga, Flora Fountain and Mumbadevi. Currently, the city has 48,000 parking spaces.

Based on accounts, the three locations have been picked in accordance with the demand for parking in the vicinity. The one at Matunga will be outside the railway station. It is slated to be an 18-storey tower with the ability to accommodate 475 cars. On the other hand, the one at Mumbadevi will be next to the Mumbadevi Temple and will also be an 18-storey tower with a capacity of 540 cars. Similarly, the one at Flora Fountain will be an underground five-storey public parking lot.

Narratives suggest that the parking lots at Mumbadevi and Flora Fountain will need heritage NOCs, whilst that one at Matunga will need a NOC from the railways. It is anticipated that the work will commence in the next three months. It is claimed that the parking lot at Mumbadevi has scope for increasing by an additional 540 parking spots. This is because only half of the plot is being used for construction presently. Further, the plot at Mumbadevi has a parking reservation in the Development Plan of Mumbai 2034.

Nonetheless, it has been reported that on a trial basis, the civic authority is considering making 540 car parking spaces available presently, built on half the plot while the remaining will be open ground. The parking lots will be made with a multi-level electro-mechanical system which allows foremost use of available space by curating two additional or more spots for each singular space.
