Indian Railways enters into 170th year of service to the Nation from April 16, 2022. Therefore, Central Railways (CR) on Sunday, April 17, presented a unique light show on the CSMT heritage building a UNESCO Heritage Site to commemorate the railway week, ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, and World Heritage Day on April 18, 2022.
“Navarasangam – Ek Gatha CSMT Ki”, showcases the Indian cultural canvas by 70 artists who are Railway employees. The original audio track has also been created by a team of Railway artists. The artists would be performing under the aegis of the Central Railway Cultural Academy having inclusive participation from Headquarters, Divisions and Workshops.
The show depicted its history through the various emotions of the nine Rasas of ‘Natyashastra’.
Padma Awardees, eminent artists, heritage conservationists and personalities from various fields, senior officials from army and navy, Central and State Government and Public Sector Undertakings, heritage and art lovers, media persons, union representatives, and all others directly or indirectly connected with this programme, Menu Lahoti, President Central Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (CRWWO) and other members were also present on the occasion.

Now new sparkle of the theme lighting system at the CSMT heritage building can be seen through a change in the technology used to light the iconic structure in the recent past. An upgraded version of LED which has more than a million combinations of lights has been used to illuminate the station building.
Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway said that they are staging a unique light and sound cum performance show in the background of this building to celebrate the heritage and architecture of this building. CSMT is a pride of Indian Railways and the entire railway fraternity, he added.
While welcoming, he said that this show endeavours to relate the national character of CSMT building depicting a collage of its rich history through the various emotions of Natyashastra. He also said that the show presented vibrant colours of music, dance, theatre, poetry and singing in the backdrop and at the precincts of this grand heritage monument.
S.K. Pankaj, Senior Deputy General Manager and President, Central Railway Cultural Academy gave away vote of thanks.
Moreover, the 134-year-old CSMT lit up with around 1100 lights. Out of these 1100, the brightness of over 450 lights has decreased due to ageing. All these 450 lights have been replaced with new technology LED lights.
For those unversed, the first journey of Railways in Asia and India, ran between Mumbai and Thane on April 16, 1853.
At present, there are five divisions on Central Railways i.e. Mumbai, Bhusaval, Nagpur, Solapur and Pune. Central Railway's network is spread over 4,183 route km in the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
