The second section of the Uran-Kharkopar fourth line is still closed to the public, even though it is ready for operations. The authorities are reportedly waiting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival announcement to inaugurate the line.

The clearance of the Commissioner of Railway Safety has been obtained and the said stretch is ready for commercial operations. Once opened to the public, it will provide much relief to commuters.

CR officials stated that it is most likely to be inaugurated by next month.

The work on this line was initiated 27 years ago, back in 1996–1997. The overall length of the Belapur-Uran line is 26.7 km, and it is being constructed in two stages.

The first phase is a 12.4-kilometre stretch between Nerul/Belapur and Kharkopar. It opened to traffic in November 2018. The remaining 14.3 km of the line is yet to be inaugurated. This second phase includes five stations: Gavanpada, Ranjanpada, Navha Sheva, Dronagiri, and Uran.

The new line offers direct communication between Island City, Navi Mumbai-CSMT, and Uran. Once operational, the journey will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, providing a cost-effective means of transportation for many.

The project faced resistance from residents. This led to delays in various parts, and the project missed several deadlines. The latest reports say that the line might open by the end of next month.
