Every year, during monsoon, Mumbai and neighbouring cities witness an immeasurable building collapse-related mishaps.

In another such incident that took place at the onset of monsoon over the weekend, where a man died and several residents were injured.

According to reports, a 29-year-old was killed while seven others were severely injured after the ceiling slabs of multiple flats collapsed on an eight-storied building in Navi Mumbai.

The incident took place around 12.30 pm at Jimmy Park 1 society in sector 17 in Nerul node of the city on Saturday, June 11.

The deceased has been identified as Venkatesh Nadar while those injured are Nisha Dharmani, 48, Riya Dharmani, 20, Sonali Godbole, 29, Adityaraj Godbole, 15, Soumitra Godbole, 50, Lalita Tyagarajan, 80 and Subramanyam Tyagarajan, 84.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) chief Abhijit Bangar stated that the building was on the list of the dilapidated dangerous building. But the society ignored the civic body’s notice.

As per officials, the injured have been admitted to Dr DY Patil Hospital in Nerul and their condition is said to be stable.

However, according to Vivek Pansare, DCP, Zone 1 of Navi Mumbai Police, the process of registering an FIR against the contractor carrying out work on the sixth floor was underway.

Moreover, if reports are to be believed, last year, a similar incident was reported in the same building and the civic body had directed the society to carry out a structural audit.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, in an unfortunate incident, a 40-year-old man died and 19 other have been injured after a three-storey building collapsed in Bandra, Mumbai last week.
