Standing committee chairman and Shiv Sena's deputy leader Yashwant Jadhav has said that 15-20 unhappy Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) corporators are likely to join Shiv Sena by December. As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are expected to take place next year in February, Sena claims that the unhappy BJP corporators are in touch with Sena to join the party.

Jadhav, while addressing about the same, has said that there are corporators who are unhappy and angry with senior BJP leaders in the civic body. They are in touch with Sena and will join the party by December. For now, there are 15-20 corporators who are likely to quit BJP.

While disregarding such claims, BJP has stated that it is Sena's trick to divert people's attention from corruption.

Commenting on the same, Jadhav said that the BJP is aware of the corporators leaving, and hence they are suppressing the issue by making allegations of corruption in Ashraya Yojana. For the unversed, it was reported that there was a scam of Rs 1,844 crores in the Ashray Yojana scheme.

In 2017, Shiv Sena had emerged as the single largest party in the civic body polls with 84 corporators in it, and BJP was the second largest party with 82 corporators. Currently, there are 97 corporators in the BMC, which is ruled by Shiv Sena, while BJP has 80 corporators, state accounts.

BJP’s Bhalchandra Shirsat squashed the claims made by Sena and said that they had no substance. He further said that Sena is daydreaming, and the party is just diverting the subject that they raised about corruption.
