Aaditya Thackeray defends his pet project

It is a known fact that the nightlife is Aaditya Thackeray pet project. So it came as no surprise that the Jr Thackeray went all guns blazing in defence of his this initiative. Aaditya was answering questions posed by a news channel when he was asked about the security concerns and how this plan of Mumbai 24X7 can add extra pressure on the Police personnel.

Aaditya defending the move said that arguments that point towards the fact that staying open around the clock will put pressure on the police are based on the assumption that Mumbaikars ventured out at night only to create a riot-like situation. He went on to that it will be an injustice to see Mumbaikars in that light.

Under the maximum city project, all the establishments in gated communities such as shopping malls and commercial complexes can stay open round the clock. The condition is that these should be in non-residential areas. As per government official, gated communities, in this case, refers to places that have CCTV surveillance, parking facilities, safety arrangements and also ensure that the sound levels are in the control.

BMC has also given a go-ahead to a few places that are in non-enclosed and non-gated areas, business hubs, commercial areas, tourist spots, where the plan can be implemented. As per the officials, the criteria for the spots to function 24x7 is that the hubs should not cause a nuisance to residential areas and where security can be ensured.

Aaditya Thackeray feels that this step will help in boosting tourism in the city and also set a good example to foreign tourist.

At the same platform, Aaditya Thackeray also spoke about the government’s decision to create underwater flood tanks. This would help in keeping the floods and waterlogging in check and will be on the same lines like that in Japan. Water-logging during monsoon is a persistent problem. Aaditya mentioned that the team of officials had visited Japan and studied the entire project. However, he refrained from giving a time frame or the budget for a project of this nature.
