CM Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, on Wednesday, December 16, faced a setback when Bombay High Court placed a stay on the Kanjurmarg Metro Car Shed project. With this order, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to maintain the status quo till further notice.

Earlier this year, it was proposed that a lang in Kanjumarg will be used to make a car shed for Metro 3 and Metro 6. The department had already started working on the project and preparing a transfer of 102 acres of land in Kanjurmarg for the proposed car shed.

Talking about this matter, State's Tourism and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray said, "Hon'ble HC has granted a stay to Kanjurmarg work. We await the detailed written order to decide the future course of action. This land is crucial for Metro Line 6, 4 and 14, apart from 3, as it will save almost INR 55,00 crores of Govt and be a nodal point for 1 crore citizens".

The decision to shift the car shed project from Aarey to Kanjur Marg was announced by CM Uddhav Thackeray, in October 2020, with an aim to preserve the forest land in the city.
