All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Imtiaz Jaleel has been appointed as party’s new Maharashtra President. Jaleel was recently elected as an MP from Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency. AIMIM took this decision ahead of the upcoming state assembly polls in order to strengthen the party.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, amid the so-called “Modi wave”, AIMIM candidate Imtiaz Jaleel defeated Shiv Sena candidate Chandrakant Khaire with a huge margin. Jaleel was fielded by AIMIM-Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) alliance in Maharashtra.

The Owaisi-Ambedkar front managed to win one seat in the 2019 LS polls. With the support of VBA, AIMIM’s Jaleel managed to get Dalit votes in Aurangabad.
