Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Parag Shah from Ghatkopar East constituency for the assembly elections in Maharashtra which are scheduled on October 21

BJP has replaced Shah with its senior leader Prakash Mehta who has been a six-time MLA from Ghatkopar East assembly constituency. Shah, who filed his nomination recently, declared his assets worth 500.62 crore in his affidavit. 

With this, Shah has been recognised as the richest candidate in 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections. According to the affidavit, Shah and his family has movable assets worth 422 crore and immovable assets worth 78 crores. 

In his affidavit, Shah has mentioned that he owns several lands in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh along with his wife. Moreover, Shah owns apartments in Ghatkopar, Chembur and a bungalow in Thane. 

The affidavit stated that Shah’s bungalow in Thane is worth 15 crores and is spread over 5,710 sq ft while the flats are worth 25 crores. Shah is currently a BJP corporator. 

During the 2017 BMC elections, Shah was the richest candidate in the civic body's history. At that time, his total assets were 690 crores. A close aide to Parag Shah informed that he is quite popular among Gujarati and Jain communities.

Mumbai BJP President Mangal Prabhat Lodha stands second in the list. Lodha, who is contesting the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections from Malabar Hills constituency, declared his assets worth 411 crores. Lodha is a builder by profession and his projects are underway in Mumbai and other parts of the country.

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Abu Azmi stands third in the list of richest candidates contesting assembly elections in Maharashtra with assets worth 209 crores. Azmi is contesting the assembly polls from Mankhurd – Shivaji Nagar constituency.
