Political dynamics in the state have altered after Sena-BJP parted ways in 2019. Post this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election will be a tough contest for the Sena, as it will go head-to-head with the BJP.
Even though there is still about a year left in the BMC elections, all the parties have already started preparations.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing for a high-decibel campaign for the February 2022 civic polls, on the lines of the recent Hyderabad civic elections, the ruling Shiv Sena has quietly begun work on ground.
On one hand, Congress has announced to contest BMC elections on its own, the speculations are doing rounds that Shiv Sena and NCP may contest BMC elections together.
The BJP has already announced that it will hoist their ‘pure’ saffron flag atop the BMC headquarters and has started preparations at the ground level for the same. While party officials are being appointed at grassroots level, on the other hand BJP has started training its spokespersons for the same.
In the BMC elections, the BJP does not want to have laxity of any kind. After controversy over the chief minister's post, Shiv Sena had quit the BJP and formed a government with the Congress and NCP in 2019. With the formation of the MVA government in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena left the alliance with BJP in the BMC as well. Hence, BJP now wants to take control over BMC.
