After pleading not guilty in connection with the defamation case registered against him, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday slammed the ruling party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their fake promises.

While addressing the party karyekartas at Goregaon, the Congress President said,

Ahead of Lok Sabha elections in 2014, PM Narendra Modi promised to generate two crore jobs annually, but in reality, he has betrayed the youth of this country. It is the youth’s right to demand employment from their government but the Modi government is reluctant.

"China provides 50,000 jobs in a day but the BJP government only provide 450," Gandhi asserted. PM Modi thinks the country works on his speeches and not by employing the youth who is willing to work.

Talking about the farmers, Gandhi said that farmers of this country are suffering and the Modi Government has failed to provide loan waiver to the farmers. The Central Government has waived off loans worth ₹2.5 lakh crore of the rich Indians, Gandhi claimed, adding, “Modi said that he will the chowkidar of the country but he is the watchman for only 15 to 20 rich Indians.”

Accusing PM Modi of lying to the country, the Congress president said, “Have you seen his face when he addresses a public rally? He seems terrified unlike me because I work for the truth.” Taking a dig at BJP President Amit Shah, he added that Shah is scared too and is travelling to form alliances all over.

Speaking about the plight of journalism under Modi regime, Rahul Gandhi appealed to the media to speak on issues affecting people and said,

During UPA government, the media could dissent and criticise openly without fear but now it is not possible.”

Veteran politician LK Advani and Modi’s political guru has been sidelined in the party. Reacting to the ill-treatment of the senior leader, Gandhi took on Modi and said that “Modiji talks about being a Hindu but doesn’t respect his guru instead I have always come forward to protect his pride. I feel bad when PM Modi doesn’t respect him." Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is admitted at AIIMS in Delhi due to his health condition. The Congress President said that he was the first one to contact Vajpayee but the BJP doesn’t care about him.

Further, boosting the confidence of the booth-level party workers, Rahul Gandhi said that Congress party has worked for the poor and its ideology can save the country from forces which disrupt the society.

Of all the cities in India, Mumbai unites people from everywhere. Congress is just like this, it works along with the people overseeing their caste, religion, and community. If they (RSS, BJP) attack and aggravate, Congress’ workers should spread the word of love and decency.”

With more soar attacks, Gandhi asserted that the PM barely managed to hold on to Gujarat, lost in Karnataka and will not watch the BJP win in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. “Congress with the opposition will defeat Modi and his government,” he assured.
