On Thursday, July 27, Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state, declared strict consequences for those posting offensive content regarding Savitribai Phule.

The announcement came during a state assembly session when it was discovered that offensive posts had surfaced on the Twitter account @bhardwajspeaks. They were subsequently shared on the websites Indic Tales and Hindu Post.

Fadnavis assured the public that no perpetrator would escape punishment. The state government took action by sending three letters to Twitter. Letters requested information about the account.

The offensive material was featured in an article published by Indic Tales. It questioned the recognition of Hindu female teachers before Savitribai Phule and also alleged that British missionaries had ulterior motives for supporting her school.

Outraged by the article, opposition parties demanded measures against the websites and the author of the piece. Consequently, a complaint was lodged against both parties. The delay in the suspect's arrest further fueled the fire, with NCP lawmaker Jitendra Awhad questioning the inaction. Congress legislators even staged a protest walkout at the assembly.

The Mumbai police promptly registered cases against the websites and the account, actively working in collaboration with Twitter India to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.

Savitribai Phule is renowned for her efforts to establish girls' education in Maharashtra at a time when formal education for women was severely restricted. She and her companions fearlessly protested against fundamentalists who opposed female education.
