The security cover of Shiv Sena MLA and first time MLA, Aaditya Thackeray has been upgraded to 'Z' category from Y+. This was done post the review by Maharashtra government committee on threat perception. The committee on Wednesday cited more public exposure as the reason to upgrade the security cover to Jr Thackeray.
The committee reviewed the security cover of 97 prominent faces in their meeting and took the decision to reduce or enhance security cover of 29 people, and 16 were de-categorised.
Former Indian skipper and Rajya Sabha member Sachin Tendulkar was among the people whose security has been reduced. Up till now, Sachin enjoyed X category security which has now been withdrawn. Under the X category, a policeman used to guard the cricketer round the clock. However, now he only be given an escort, when he steps out.
Another person, whose security cover is downgraded is Former Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik. His security has been downgraded from Z+ to X. Lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, who represented the prosecution in several high-profile cases like the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, too has been downgraded from Z+ security to Y.
In addition to all this, security of Social activist Anna Hazare’s has been enhanced to Z category from Y+.
