Hanuman Nagar residents to abstain from voting

SHARES

Hanuman Nagar - On the one hand, political parties are campaigning for votes, while on the other, 6000 residents across 15 societies in Hanuman Nagar, Vikhroli have chosen not to vote in the forthcoming civic polls. The residents are boycotting the municipal elections.

No development, inadequate water facilities, cleanliness issues and many more major problems have forced them to take such a strong decision. Residents Ibrahim Sheikh and Alfa Patel told Mumbai Live, "Leaders are campaigning for elections for many years, they promise but they don't fulfill them. Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme was formulated in the year 1994. 23 years have passed since then, but there is no sign of development."

For the past 20 years, people staying in Hanuman Nagar have not been allotted homes, they claim.  Residents claim they are fighting for their rights against builders and contractors. Residents say they are fed up of these never ending problems, and hence, their only recourse currently is to boycott the elections, to teach 'the politicians a lesson'.
