Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress alliance will conduct a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the possibilities of government formation with Shiv Sena. The top leaders from both parties will participate in the meeting.

Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi held a telephonic conversation with NCP chief Sharad Pawar and deputed senior party leaders including Ahmed Patel, Mallikarjun Kharge and KC Venugopal to hold further discussions over government formation in Mumbai.

Maharashtra Governor on Monday evening invited Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) while asking them to indicate “willingness and ability” to form the government. NCP has till 8:30 PM today to stake claim.

As this happened, BJP on Monday said that they have adopted a policy of “wait and watch” and will act at a favourable moment. BJP leaders were at Caretaker Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ residence tracking the events throughout the day.

Earlier, the Maharashtra Governor had invited Shiv Sena to stake claim to form the government. However, Shiv Sena’s deadline to do the same ended at 7:30 PM on Monday and the party failed to submit the requisite letter of support from the alliance partners (NCP and Congress).

Shiv Sena was left hanging after Congress and NCP didn’t extend support within the deadline. However, Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray had informed the Maharashtra Governor that Congress-NCP alliance had assured of “in-principle” support to them.

Shiv Sena requested another 48 hours to stake claim and get the numbers but the same was declined by the Governor.

The deadlock in Maharashtra remains since the declaration of the assembly election results. The tussle between Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified over the issue of power-sharing.
